Five killed as strong earthquake jolts Iran

Five people are reportedly dead and 44 injured in an earthquake in southern Iran.

The earthquake occurred Saturday night, Report informs citing local media.

Iranian media estimated the magnitude of the quake at 6.1, and the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported that its magnitude was 6.0.

The first tremor was followed by aftershocks, the most powerful of which was a magnitude 6.2, the reports said.

According to EMSC, the epicenter of the earthquake lay at a depth of 10 km.
