Afghanistan must not face terrorism alone Uzbek general says
Chairman of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, Lieutenant-General Abdusalom Azizov has said that the complex and contentious military-political dynamics within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) demand a unified approach and coordinated efforts from member states to combat international terrorism, religious extremism, and radicalism.
Azizov addressed a joint conference of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre in Tashkent on September 4, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.
He highlighted the factors posing threats to the security of SCO and CIS member states and emphasised that the situation is exacerbated by the fact that international terrorist organisations have not abandoned their destructive plans against SCO and CIS member states.
"The Afghan government is combating international terrorism within the limits of its capabilities and resources. The Afghan intelligence service is on the 'front line' against ISIS-K [Islamic State Khorasan Province] and has achieved notable results. In this context, it is crucial not to leave Afghan partners to face this challenge alone; defeating the enemy must be a collective effort based on the principle of indivisible security," Azizov emphasised.
