Agenda: Rejection of Declaration of Independence and fight against Catholicos Meeting at Pashinyan's office

27 January 2024 14:01

On January 26, the office of the ruling party under the leadership of Nikol Pashinyan hosted another party discussion on the theme "state-homeland". Party members made emotional speeches, telling why they love the state, what the state is to them, what the Motherland is, etc.

"It should be noted that Nikol Pashinyan put this issue on the team's agenda some time ago and is doing everything to bring the party members to the idea that it is necessary to abandon the Declaration of Independence, as it contradicts the party's vision," Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian Hraparak newspaper.

"Another topic was discussed the day before. Thus, party member Armen Khojoyan made a speech against the Armenian Apostolic Church, noting that although at some stages of their history the church took over the function of the state, today the role of the church should be reduced to zero and respect for state institutions should be increased.

It should be reminded that starting February 10, the ruling party wants to launch a new campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church under the name of some unknown "Vardanank" movement. A few days ago, an announcement was posted on Facebook that a 24-hour sit-in will be held in the courtyard of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. "There are reports that among the initiators of this movement are activists of the 'New Armenia, New Patriarch' movement, who started their fight against the church in 2019, including government MPs," the article notes.
