AIIB ready to support Azerbaijan's economic development priorities

Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov has said that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with international financial and economic organisations, including the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Sharifov made the remarks at a meeting with a delegation headed by AIIB Vice President for Investment Operations Konstantin Limitovskiy, Report informs.

AIIB’s support for the Southern Gas Corridor project, which is of particular importance for the energy security of Europe and the region was emphasised at the meeting. The prospects for expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and the AIIB in financing investment projects in the field of energy, infrastructure, transport in Azerbaijan and in the region were discussed.

Limitovskiy emphasised the importance of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline project, which is one of the first projects approved by the AIIB since its foundation.

Another important project is the programme of the Republic of Azerbaijan “Active Intervention in COVID-19 and Cost Support”, approved in 2021.

Limitovskiy noted that the AIIB is ready to further expand cooperation with Azerbaijan and support the priorities of the country's economic development.
