Arab League to hold emergency meeting on Israeli actions in Gaza
The Arab League is set to convene an emergency meeting on October 22, gathering permanent representatives to deliberate on measures aimed at halting the ongoing violence against Palestinians in Gaza.
In a statement released late on October 21, the Arab League confirmed that the meeting will take place at its Cairo headquarters, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The meeting will focus on actions to address what it describes as Israeli crimes and acts of genocide against the Palestinian population, particularly in light of efforts to displace individuals from northern Gaza.
Palestine's envoy to the Arab League, Muhannad Al-Aklouk, indicated that the meeting was requested by Palestine due to the escalating violence perpetrated against defenceless Palestinians. He urged the Arab League and its member states to fulfil their historical obligations in confronting these unprecedented Israeli actions, which include mass killings, destruction, forced displacement, and starvation.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) reported on October 21 that Israel is blocking the entry of humanitarian aid into northern Gaza.
Notably, as the Israeli military continues its extensive offensive in northern Gaza — now entering its 18th day — the region remains under a crippling siege.
According to the enclave's health ministry, the ongoing conflict resulted in the deaths of over 42,600 individuals, predominantly women and children, and has left nearly 100,000 others injured since the conflict escalated following a Hamas attack last year.
The ongoing conflict has led to the near-total displacement of Gaza’s population, compounded by a blockade that has caused critical shortages of food, clean water, and medical supplies. Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice due to its actions in Gaza.
