Armenia moves to seize assets of ex-governor Vaagn Akopyan
Armenia’s Office for Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Assets has filed a court claim to recover property and funds from former Syunik governor and ex-parliament member Vaagn Akopyan, along with affiliated individuals, the General Prosecutor’s Office announced.
The claim covers Akopyan, his wife Elizabet Petrosyan, his brother Karen Akopyan, Karen’s spouse, their daughters, and Vaagn Akopyan’s parents, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
The assets include:

3 vehicles
-
1 share in a legal entity
-
4 loan claims totalling 122,614,000 AMD (around $325,408)
-
2 bonds worth $741,000
-
2 bank deposits totalling $240,000
-
$11,990,771 classified as illegally acquired funds
-
$7,459,559 of uncertain origin, deemed illegally acquired, transferred to a bona fide purchaser, or otherwise unidentifiable for recovery
Vaagn Akopyan was placed on the wanted list in October 2025 on charges of abuse of office, causing large-scale property damage and money laundering on a grand scale.
Akopyan is a member of the Republican Party of Armenia, associated with former president Serzh Sargsyan.
