Armenia ratifies EU crisis management deal, boosting security role
The Armenian Parliament has formally ratified an agreement enabling the country to participate in European Union crisis management operations, marking a significant step in deepening Armenia’s engagement with EU security initiatives.
The ratification vote saw 55 MPs in favor, while 24 abstained, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan stressed that the agreement positions Armenia as more than a passive beneficiary of security assistance. “Under this agreement, Armenia will not only be a consumer of security, but also an active participant in operations conducted by our European partners,” he said.
The agreement encompasses 20 missions, with mandates determined either by the UN Security Council or the inviting party, Kostanyan explained.
He further noted that while financial allocations for Armenia’s participation have not yet been included in the national budget, the government’s reserve fund will be used if necessary to support its commitments.
