Armenia sees no immediate risk of higher Russian gas prices—official

11 June 2026 13:12

There are currently no indications of any process that would lead to an increase in gas prices for Armenia, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Davit Khudatyan said.

The minister made the remarks while addressing ongoing cooperation with Russia’s Gazprom, Caliber.Az reports.

“The Armenian government is conducting intensive work with its partners at Gazprom,” Khudatyan said. “At the moment I have nothing to add. There is nothing new, no changes have occurred. Gas supplies are being carried out according to the established schedule and at the existing tariffs. As you know, tariffs are fixed by contracts that remain in force until the end of the current year and into early 2027.”

When asked whether he could rule out the possibility of tariff increases before the expiration of the agreement, the minister said: “Dear colleagues, in this world anything is possible. But at the moment we have exactly the situation I described. (...) I repeat: today gas supply is being carried out without interruptions, gas is arriving at the same prices as before, and we continue to work with our partners in the same manner.”

Khudatyan noted that the government is managing risks, including those related to possible tariff increases, although he declined to elaborate on how these risks are being addressed.

Commenting on the possibility that Russia could set tariffs for Armenia at levels comparable to European prices, the minister said he could not make such forecasts, but sought to reassure the public: “Citizens of Armenia should not worry about this.”

Journalists also asked whether Russia could unilaterally terminate the existing contract. Khudatyan responded that such a move would require legal grounds.

“For unilateral termination of a contract, there must be grounds. We are working effectively with our Russian partners. Nothing has changed in our working relations,” he emphasized.
