Armenian deputy PM: No decision yet on border delimitation with Azerbaijan

27 September 2024 11:04

Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan has stated that a decision regarding the next stage of border delimitation has not been made yet.

“At this moment, there is no specific decision on the further delimitation process. We must complete the internal procedures for approving the regulations,” Grigoryan said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

On September 26, the Constitutional Court of Armenia officially approved a draft regulation governing the work of commissions involved in border delimitation with Azerbaijan, deeming it compliant with the country's constitution.

The regulations include the process of organising delimitation work, preparation of relevant documents, drafting a protocol describing the border crossing, creating maps, and the work of expert groups.

The regulation, titled “On the joint activities of the State Commission on the delimitation of the state border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, and the Commission on the delimitation of the state border and border security issues between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan,” was signed on August 30, 2024.

The Court's decision confirms that the obligations outlined in the regulation align with Armenia's constitutional framework. The ruling will take effect immediately upon publication on the official website of the Constitutional Court. This development marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to address border issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan, highlighting the importance of legal frameworks in facilitating dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.
