Armenian party official: EU completely abandons term "Nagorno-Karabakh"

Armenia's Republican Party Deputy Chairman Armen Ashotyan has said that the European Union has completely abandoned the wording "Nagorno-Karabakh".

Ashotyan made the remarks on his Facebook page during the live relay, Caliber.Az reports quoting the Armenian media.

"Because of [incumbent Armenian Prime Minister] Nikol Pashinyan's defeatism, there is no problem of Nagorno-Karabakh for official Brussels," he said.

The Armenian party official noted that his statement "is based on an official document signed by the secretary-general of the European Commission, which was published on July 18 this year. The document is called the report on the implementation of the partnership with Azerbaijan".

"That is, the European Union has a partnership programme with Azerbaijan. This report summarises its relations with Azerbaijan, assessments, problems and successes recorded in various fields. Naturally, in the context of relations with Azerbaijan, the assessment of security problems is also given. Throughout this text, the term 'Nagorno-Karabakh' is not used at least once. Speaking about the Armenian-Azerbaijani problems, official Brussels completely abandoned the wording 'Nagorno-Karabakh' and only once used the word 'Karabakh' tolerated by Azerbaijanis. According to the official response of the European Union, Nagorno-Karabakh does not exist, and this is a consequence of Nikol Pashinyan's treacherous policy. What he did during the trilateral meeting, that is, he refused to use the term 'Nagorno-Karabakh', now all this is in official documents," Ashotyan said, expressing confidence that neither the Foreign Ministry nor the Security Council of Armenia had read this document.
