Armenian PM creating own police guard

The Armenian government intends to create a Police Guard - a special law enforcement agency within the police, which will protect public order and security, the most important state facilities, and ensure the security of officials and foreign delegations.

While discussing the issue at the Ministry of Justice, Armenian Deputy Minister Arpine Sargsyan said that the police guard will consist of police units, the main department of state protection of the police and accompanying battalions, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.

Sargsyan noted that the mentioned organisations are merging because at present, the police units tend to combine the functions of ensuring external security, internal law and order.

This circumstance does not correspond to the tasks assigned to the police. So, there is a need to build a new system and create a “clean” police service as part of the guard.
