Armenian Prosecutor's Office investigating cases related to ammunition supplies
Former Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Artak Davtyan has been summoned to the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding a case involving illegal assets. Davtyan is required to appear on October 18.
Along with former Defence Minister David Tonoyan and several other high-ranking military officials, he is under investigation for abuses related to ammunition supplies, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Davtyan served as the head of the Armenian General Staff twice from 2018 to 2020 and from 2021 to 2022. Previously, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff Stepan Galstyan and former head of the Armed Forces' Aviation Division, Avetik Muradyan, were also summoned to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Moreover, the Armenian Prosecutor's Office is seeking to confiscate real estate belonging to Sedrak Kocharyan, the eldest son of ex-President Robert Kocharyan, and his wife. This involves 14 properties valued at 2.7 billion drams (approximately $6.9 million). The Prosecutor General's Office has filed a corresponding lawsuit in court. Robert Kocharyan has recently come back into the spotlight of law enforcement agencies.
In September, judicial investigations were reopened regarding the so-called "March case", where he is accused of involvement in the events of March 1, 2008. On that day, following the presidential elections, opposition protests led by Armenia's first president, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, erupted against the election results. The protests on March 1 escalated into mass riots in Yerevan, resulting in the deaths of 10 individuals.
