Austria interested in transportation of goods by Azerbaijani railway PHOTO
Azerbaijan’s ADY Container Company and Austrian Rail Cargo Group signed a cooperation memorandum on Sunday.
The signing ceremony took place as part of the visit of the Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Company, Javid Gurbanov, to Austria, where he met with his Austrian counterpart Andreas Matte, according to Caliber.Az.
The role of multimodal transportation by railway in the development of economic relations between the two countries and the growth of trade turnover was on the meeting’s agenda.
The possible joint efforts for more effective use of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), an increase in cargo transportation along the China-Europe-China and Central Asia-Europe-Central Asia routes were also discussed.
Representatives of Azerbaijan Railways Company also held the meetings with representatives of the leading European cargo transportation companies, including Rail Cargo Group, Metrans, and Bahnoperator. ADY Container, the subsidiary of the Azerbaijan Railways Company, and Austrian Rail Cargo Group signed a memorandum of cooperation following the meeting.
The sides agreed to cooperate to increase cargo transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and from the Romanian port of Constanta to the Georgian port of Poti and further through Azerbaijan to China and Central Asia on board the Azerbaijani ships, including "Shair Vaqif" [Poet Vaqif] vessel.
