AZCON, Abu Dhabi Ports discuss expanding transport cooperation PHOTO
Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON) Executive Director Shaheen Babaev and Abu Dhabi Ports Group (ADPC) CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi explore expanded cooperation in transport and logistics.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of investment opportunities and potential areas of strategic collaboration between their respective organisations. They also reviewed ongoing transport and infrastructure projects currently being implemented by AZCON, with a focus on regional connectivity and trade facilitation, Caliber.Az reports per the holding.
The discussions follow a cooperation agreement signed in September between AZCON Holding — representing Baku Shipyard LLC — and Abu Dhabi Ports Company. As part of the agreement, new vessels are scheduled to be constructed by 2028. These vessels will be deployed along key maritime routes in the Caspian Sea, with the aim of improving connectivity between major trade hubs.
AZCON noted that the new fleet will play a critical role in strengthening the Middle Corridor — a strategic trade route that links Asia and Europe through the Caspian Sea, the South Caucasus, and the Black Sea. The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance regional transit capacity and streamline cross-continental trade flows.
