Azerbaijan advances construction on Horadiz–Aghband railway line PHOTO
The construction of a protective monolithic reinforced concrete gallery, part of the Horadiz–Aghband railway line, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, according to Javad Alovsatov, construction manager at the Project Management Department of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.
Alovsatov said that work is currently underway on a protective gallery located at the 99-kilometre mark of the railway line. The structure is necessary because the route passes through mountainous and rocky terrain, where there is a risk of rock fragments falling onto the tracks, Caliber.Az reports.
He explained that the overall project involves the construction of 40 bridges, nine stations, 22 road crossings, four tunnels, and three protective galleries, with a total of around 600 engineering structures planned. The railway itself will stretch 110.4 kilometres, and including station tracks, its total length will reach 140.6 kilometres.
According to Alovsatov, about 71 per cent of tunnel construction has been completed so far, and overall, the project is 68 per cent finished. Construction and installation work are continuing in stages.
He noted that most of the work under the first phase has already been completed, allowing cargo shipments to begin along the line to the Araz Valley Economic Zone industrial park. Intensive work is currently ongoing on the second and third stages of the project.
Although significant progress has been made, Alovsatov said that the overall completion date for the railway line has not yet been determined.
