Azerbaijan assumes chairmanship of Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administrations PHOTO

The administrative session of the 28th General Assembly of the Intra-European Organization of Tax Administrations (IOTA) was held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.

As the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan told Caliber.Az, the delegation of the State Tax Service (STS) under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan was headed by the head of the State Tax Service Orkhan Nazarli.

The session was addressed by IOTA President and Chairman of the National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary Ferenc Vagujhelyi, who presented a report on the work done and results achieved during his presidency in 2023-2024. During the voting, documents covering the current and medium-term periods of IOTA’s activities were approved.

Chairman of the State Tax Service, Orkhan Nazarli, was elected president of IOTA for 2024-2025. There were also elections to the IOTA Executive Council for this period. The council included Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Romania, Switzerland and Sweden. Azerbaijan, elected president of the organization, will chair the Executive Council.

Addressing the event, Nazarli spoke about modern trends and challenges of the international tax system, priority areas for the development of tax administration in the medium term.

It was noted that tax administration is a dynamic area that requires high competence, awareness and a strategic approach. Against the backdrop of globalization and digitalization, tax systems have been undergoing a certain transformation in recent years, which requires the organization of a perfect and modern tax system at the international level and strengthening the cooperation of tax administrations to meet existing challenges.

Noting that the State Tax Service will preside over IOTA for the first time, Nazarli informed the event participants about future plans and noted that in the coming period it is planned to mobilize all efforts to increase the efficiency of cooperation within the organization.

Orhan Nazarli emphasized that in order to apply effective mechanisms, tax administrations must carefully monitor current trends. Particular attention will be paid to achieving the goals of the IOTA strategy for 2023-2027. Strengthening the capacity and capacity of the General Assembly will be a top priority. The next session of the IOTA General Assembly will take place in Azerbaijan. Orhan Nazarli invited all participants to actively participate in upcoming events and initiatives.

In conclusion, Ferenc Vagujhelyi handed over the organization’s flag, symbolizing the presidency of IOTA, to Orkhan Nazarli.
