Azerbaijan, Belarus parliamentary speakers discuss expanding bilateral ties
Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Sahiba Gafarov met with Chairwoman of the upper chamber of Belarus’s parliament Natalya Kochanova during the 60th plenary session of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly held in St. Petersburg, according to Azerbaijan’s parliament.
The two officials discussed the state of bilateral relations, emphasising that ties between Azerbaijan and Belarus continue to develop on the basis of friendship and mutual trust, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The meeting highlighted the role of close political dialogue between the two countries’ leaderships, with both sides noting that reciprocal visits and high-level engagement have contributed significantly to strengthening cooperation.
The speakers also reviewed interparliamentary relations, stressing the importance of legislative bodies in deepening overall bilateral ties. Gafarova recalled recent and past exchanges, including the visit to Azerbaijan a few days earlier by Igor Sergeenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus, as well as her own visits to Belarus and Kochanova’s visits to Baku.
Both sides underlined that parliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Belarus is developing successfully, including within international parliamentary frameworks such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the CIS Parliamentary Assembly, and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.
Kochanova noted the dynamic growth of relations between the two countries across economic, trade, cultural, and other sectors, adding that parliamentary engagement further supports the expansion of these ties.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest, as both sides reaffirmed their intention to continue strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Belarus at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
