Azerbaijan has taken part in the closed ministerial meeting on energy connectivity and regional partnerships for a sustainable energy transition held in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.

According to a post by Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Bulgaria Huseyn Huseynov, on social media, the event saw the participation of Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Energy, Orkhan Zeynalov, Caliber.Az reports.

"Had a pleasure to participate at the ministerial meeting on Energy Connectivity in Sofia together with Mr. Orkhan Zeynalov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan. Fruitful discussions were held among the participants from a Wider Black Sea region on enhancing the regional interconnectivity for an improved energy supply and transition," the diplomat said.

Representatives from the UK, Moldova, Hungary, Greece, Azerbaijan, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and key industry players are in attendance.

To recall, the closed ministerial meeting on energy connectivity and regional partnerships for a sustainable energy transition has officially started in Sofia, with Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov leading the discussions.

The meeting, organised by Bulgaria’s Ministry of Energy, is focused on advancing interregional cooperation for secure, clean, and sustainable energy systems. The initiative, first introduced at the 29th UN Climate Change Conference in Baku in November 2024, is expected to further bolster collaboration in the energy sector.

Later, Minister Stankov and other participants will join the annual Energy Summit organised by the Capital newspaper to present the outcomes of the meeting. In addition, a discussion on geothermal energy will be held, co-hosted by the Ministry of Energy and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bulgaria, with opening remarks from Stankov and Dutch Ambassador Simon van der Burg.
