Azerbaijan boosts gas exports to Europe, Türkiye

10 September 2024 14:26

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov has written that Azerbaijan exported 8.4 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas to Europe from January to August 2024.

Azerbaijan exported 6.5 bcm of gas to Türkiye and 1.5 bcm to Georgia during the first eight months of the year, Shahbazov wrote on X, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The minister noted that 3.7 bcm of gas were exported to Türkiye via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) during the reporting period. In general, Azerbaijan's gas exports have increased by approximately 3.1 per cent from January to August 2024 compared to the same period last year.

The Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) is a major infrastructure project designed to transport natural gas from the Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan to Europe, enhancing energy security and diversifying sources for European countries.

TANAP is part of the Southern Gas Corridor, a strategic initiative aimed at reducing Europe's dependence on Russian gas and diversifying its energy sources. The pipeline helps deliver Caspian Sea gas to European markets.
