Azerbaijan eyes to expand ties with UNECE in energy sector
The Azerbaijani Energy Ministry has announced that Azerbaijan is interested in expanding ties with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in the energy sector.
The issue was discussed at a meeting between Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Energy Samir Valiyev and UNECE Deputy Executive Secretary Dmitry Mariyasin, Report informs citing the ministry.
During the meeting, Azerbaijan and the UNECE exchanged their views on possible spheres of cooperation in the energy sector, and interest in further strengthening relations was expressed.
The energy security and energy transition in the region covered by the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), the role of multilateral relations in creating sustainable and carbon-neutral energy systems, and the introduction of green technologies were discussed at the meeting.
Azerbaijan has also made a voluntary commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 40 per cent by 2050.
