Azerbaijan, Georgia holding "intense negotiations" on restoration of railway connections
Intensive negotiations are underway for the resumption of passenger train services between Tbilisi and Baku following a five-year pause in operations.
This was confirmed by the Georgian Railway company in response to an inquiry by the country's media group BMG, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
According to the statement, both Azerbaijan and Georgia were actively working on resuming rail passenger transportation, which has been suspended in March 2020 amid the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and has not been fully restored to this day.
“The process of coordinating technical details and holding discussions between railway authorities and other relevant state institutions is ongoing. The exact date for the resumption of passenger services will be announced at a later time,” the statement reads.
