Azerbaijan, Georgia mull cooperation in green energy sector
The prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in the oil and gas sector and renewable energy were considered.
SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf said this at a meeting with First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Romeo Mikautadze, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Azerbaijan State Oil Company (SOCAR).
At the meeting, they underscored the successful development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in all areas of the economy, including in the energy sector. They also added that the mutual visits of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Georgia in 2022, and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to Azerbaijan gave a new impetus to the development of strategic partnership relations.
The two men emphasized that joint energy and transport projects not only strengthen the sustainable economic development of both countries, but also make a valuable contribution to the energy security of the region and Europe. In particular, they added that the signing in 2022 in Bucharest of an agreement on a strategic partnership in the field of green energy between the governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary opens up new opportunities for expanding cooperation.
To recap, the meeting also expressed satisfaction with the successful activities of SOCAR in Georgia, and had an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
