The agreement was announced during a joint press conference in Baku by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, and his Guinea-Bissau counterpart Carlos Pinto Pereira, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
FM Bayramov described the signing as a significant step towards enhancing regular communication between the two countries, ensuring that both parties are informed about developments in their respective regions. The memorandum is expected to facilitate more robust diplomatic ties and foster mutual understanding.
In addition to political consultations, the two ministers discussed a broad range of potential cooperation areas, including the development of natural resources. Bayramov highlighted that Guinea-Bissau is at a pivotal moment in its resource development and noted that Azerbaijan is ready to share its expertise in this field. He emphasized that Azerbaijani state companies would provide valuable insights into project management and the legislative frameworks essential for successful resource development.
Furthermore, the issue of educational exchanges was addressed during the talks. Minister Bayramov mentioned that Azerbaijan would offer scholarships to students from Guinea-Bissau, allowing them to study at Azerbaijani universities. Discussions were also held regarding student exchanges, with planned meetings at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education and various higher education institutions to further explore these opportunities.
In his remarks, the Azerbaijani FM noted that this development comes on the heels of longstanding diplomatic ties between the two countries, dating back to 1992.
Both nations have consistently supported each other on various international platforms, particularly within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Bayramov highlighted the critical role Guinea-Bissau has played in supporting Azerbaijan's initiatives during its chairmanship of the movement, further solidifying their partnership in global affairs. Their shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and cooperation on the international stage continues to pave the way for deeper collaboration.
