Azerbaijan has strong offshore wind potential, CESI director says
Azerbaijan holds significant potential for the development of offshore wind energy, according to Andrea Meola, Global Markets and Business Development Director at Italy’s CESI Consulting.
Speaking at the "Green Energy Week 2025: Azerbaijan and Central Asia" event in Baku, Meola highlighted the country’s strategic position in the renewable energy transition, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He noted that many nations are now ramping up efforts in the renewable energy sector, although some started later than others.
“However, many began their energy transition later than other European nations. As a result, they are now working to close that gap,” Meola said.
Focusing on Azerbaijan, Meola underscored the country's promising prospects in offshore wind energy development. He pointed out that future progress in this sector depends on both market demand and infrastructure for energy exports.
“Of course, you need buyers for this energy. In addition, you must identify export routes capable of enabling new generation projects and creating business opportunities. That's why the projects being implemented in this sector are extremely important initiatives,” he stated.
The event brought together regional and international stakeholders to discuss renewable energy development in Azerbaijan and Central Asia, with a particular focus on green transition strategies, investment opportunities, and regional cooperation.
