Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev underscored the country’s climate and security initiatives during a high-level visit to the Czech Republic on September 11-12.
Speaking at the “Building a Resilient Future in Changing Climate” forum in Prague, Rafiyev detailed Azerbaijan’s commitments and outcomes from the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), which was hosted in Azerbaijan in November, Caliber.Az reports via Foreign Ministry.
He emphasised the decisions adopted at COP29 and their contribution to global climate action, while exploring the potential role of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in supporting regional environmental and security efforts.
During his visit, Rafiyev held bilateral meetings with Czech Deputy Foreign Minister Jan Marian and Finland’s OSCE Permanent Representative Veijo Hukkanen.
The discussions with Marian focused on deepening Azerbaijan-Czech cooperation on multilateral platforms, advancing climate initiatives, and preparing for COP30.
In talks with Hukkanen, Rafiyev addressed Azerbaijan’s engagement with the OSCE following the dissolution of the Minsk Group, as well as the organisation’s evolving work on climate change, urban development, and governance amid shifting international dynamics.
