Azerbaijan, Huawei explore renewable energy data centre collaboration

22 October 2024 15:21

Azerbaijan and the Chinese company Huawei are exploring the possibility of establishing a data centre powered by renewable energy sources.

Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, shared this update on his social media page on X, per Caliber.Az.

"At the meeting with Kai Song, President of Public Relations of Huawei in China, we reviewed the prospects for cooperation in the field of GreenEnergy with the company, which presents progressive technological solutions. In the context of Azerbaijan's implementation of green energy corridors and fibre-optic cable projects between Europe and Asia, we discussed the development of a renewable energy-based data centre with Huawei," Shahbazov wrote.

It is worth noting that Azerbaijan is engaged in several negotiations with Chinese companies in the field of renewable energy. Azerbaijan is exploring opportunities for collaboration with China in areas such as renewable energy sources, energy-saving systems, network enhancement, green energy exports, offshore wind energy, and the supply of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables, with a wide exchange of ideas on the latest practices.

Chinese companies are showing interest in participating in large-scale activities to realize Azerbaijan’s vast renewable energy potential, with investment opportunities in building renewable energy stations in the country being evaluated.

In May, Huawei hosted the regional event "Tech Carnival & Partner Summit 2024" in Baku for the Middle East and Central Asia region.

Focusing on business, industries, and ecosystems, the event thoroughly examined the opportunities and challenges that industries face as they evolve.

This summit was not just another industry event but a major occasion that resonated across the entire Middle East and Central Asia region.

As the largest of its kind in the Middle East and Central Asia, the event attracted a large audience and received high praise from partners and clients. It was a significant occasion, representing a fusion of innovation, technology, and collaboration aimed at shaping the future of the digital landscape in the region.
