Azerbaijan, Hydrogen Council set vision for future green energy exports

05 October 2024 16:42

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Ivana Zhemelkova, CEO of the Hydrogen Council, to discuss Azerbaijan's initiatives in hydrogen energy.

This meeting took place during the G20 ministerial forum in Brazil, Azerbaijani Energy Ministry told Caliber.Az.

Shahbazov highlighted that Azerbaijan is in the process of developing a hydrogen strategy that includes projects for the production and export of “green” hydrogen derived from offshore wind energy. He also mentioned that a “Declaration on Hydrogen” will be adopted at the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in November.

Zhemelkova offered assistance to Azerbaijan to ensure a successful outcome at COP29, noting that the “Hydrogen Declaration” is a key energy initiative under Azerbaijan's leadership for the conference.

The G20 countries have expressed their support for Azerbaijan's leadership and initiatives at COP29, a sentiment emphasized by Shahbazov in a post on social media platform X.

“At the G20 Energy Transition Ministerial Meeting in Brazil, we discussed priorities for Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency, including the establishment of a new collective quantitative goal to address the financial needs of developing countries regarding climate change and enhancing climate actions through effective carbon markets, as well as green energy initiatives to accelerate the energy transition,” Shahbazov stated.

He reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to collaboration and inclusion, emphasizing the country’s readiness to work with all stakeholders to achieve successful energy outcomes at COP29. G20 nations voiced their support for Azerbaijan’s chairmanship and initiatives during this important conference.
