Azerbaijan, IAEA to implement joint projects in nuclear energy
Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov signed a memorandum of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) on November 13.
“At the 'Financing Low Carbon Technologies, Including Nuclear Energy' event, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Atomic Energy Agency on Cooperation in the Area of Energy Planning in the Context of the Paris Agreement. Our joint research and projects with the IAEA on advancing nuclear energy will support Azerbaijan’s progress towards integrating nuclear energy and contribute to the diversification of its energy system,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the minister’s message on X.
COP29 is considered one of the largest and most prestigious climate conferences in the world. This year’s event in Baku, which will run until November 22, is being held in Azerbaijan for the first time. The country has signed a Host Country Agreement and other key documents with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat, cementing its role as a leader in climate change discussions.
