Azerbaijan, Iran discuss economic, transport, energy cooperation in Tehran talks PHOTO
The Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, held a meeting with the First Vice President of Iran, Mohammad Reza Aref, as part of his working visit to Tehran.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the current state of Azerbaijan-Iran relations and explored opportunities for collaboration in economy, trade, investment, transport and transit, oil and gas, energy, and humanitarian affairs.
A key topic of discussion was the development of road and railway infrastructure to enhance connectivity between Azerbaijan and Iran. Particular emphasis was placed on the construction of the East Zangezur–Nakhchivan transport corridor via Iranian territory and the advancement of the North-South Transport Corridor. The officials also assessed the progress of ongoing joint projects in these areas.
Additionally, environmental concerns related to the Caspian Sea were addressed, with both sides highlighting the importance of preventing pollution and mitigating the risks of shallowing. Further discussions were held on strengthening cooperation in the Caspian Sea basin.
The meeting underscored the commitment of Azerbaijan and Iran to deepening their strategic partnership through continued collaboration on regional connectivity, economic development, and environmental sustainability.
