Azerbaijan, Italy explore energy cooperation opportunities
Azerbaijan and Italy have held discussions regarding potential cooperation in the development of energy systems.
The talks took place during a meeting between Chairman of Azerbaijan's state energy company Azerenerji, Balababa Rzayev, and Italy’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Luca di Gianfrancesco, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerenerji.
Both sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral energy ties, particularly in light of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's recent visit to Italy.
The involvement of Italian company Ansaldo Energia, along with other firms, in energy projects being implemented in Azerbaijan was a focal point of the discussions. The meeting underscores the growing interest in expanding cooperation in the energy sector between the two nations.
The contract between Ansaldo Energia and Azerenerji – the largest electricity producer in the Republic of Azerbaijan – signed on February 13, 2023 in the presence of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Minister of Made in Italy and Enterprise Adolfo Urso.
The agreement includes the supply of four gas turbines AE94.3A, for a value of beyond 160 million euros, from the Italian company.
