Azerbaijan, Italy explore joint energy initiatives at World Economic Forum
Rovshan Najaf, President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), met with Claudio Descalzi, Chief Executive Officer of Italy’s Eni, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos (WEF 2026).
According to Caliber.Az, Najaf shared details of the meeting on the social media platform X.
“We had a productive meeting with Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, which reaffirmed our strong partnership and shared commitment to advancing strategic initiatives in the energy sector,” Najaf wrote.
He said the discussions focused on potential projects stemming from the memorandums of understanding signed between SOCAR and Eni, with particular attention to energy security, emissions reduction, and biofuel production.
“During the meeting, we discussed potential projects arising from the memorandums of understanding signed between SOCAR and Eni, with a focus on energy security, emissions reduction, and biofuel production,” the post noted.
Najaf emphasized that bilateral cooperation is an important step toward strengthening Europe’s energy security, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting the development of renewable energy in Azerbaijan and across the broader region.
“By leveraging our combined expertise, we aim to address today’s energy challenges and build a more sustainable, resilient, and energy-secure future,” he added.
