Azerbaijan launches COP29 partnership programme for local businesses

19 July 2024 20:40

The COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company has unveiled its partnership programme aimed at integrating local small and medium-sized businesses into the upcoming COP29 conference, scheduled to take place in Baku from November 11-22, 2024.

During a recent meeting with local business representatives, the operating company presented a unique initiative designed to elevate the visibility of Azerbaijani entrepreneurs on a global stage, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.

The partnership programme aims to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable production practices among local businesses while raising awareness about environmental issues and climate change.

Key objectives of the programme include showcasing local products to an international audience, enhancing the global presence of Azerbaijani brands, and supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the country's economy. This initiative is set to provide a significant platform for local entrepreneurs to engage with a global audience and contribute to the broader goals of COP29.

The COP29 conference is expected to be a landmark event, and the partnership program reflects Azerbaijan’s commitment to integrating sustainable practices and supporting local economic development in the context of global climate action.

Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.

Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.

Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit.

The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
