Azerbaijan launches designing of railway connecting western districts with Nakhchivan
Design works have started on the railway line that will connect Azerbaijani western districts with Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Rahman Humbatov made the statement during a panel speech at the Azerbaijani-Turkish Investment Forum, Trend reports.
According to him, this issue is being discussed with Iran.
"Our railway specialists together with Iranian colleagues are already working on the route of the road. Design works have started," he emphasised.
The Zangezur corridor project proposed by Azerbaijan is aimed at establishing transport communication between the main part of Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, passing through the territory of Armenia. This route has great potential and could become one of the sequels of the One Belt, One Road project, as well as part of the North-South corridor.
The creation of new transport infrastructure in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, including the start of operation of the Zangezur corridor, will play a crucial role in terms of opening a new transport hub on the route of the Middle Corridor.
From this viewpoint, it is important to take joint effective measures to fully realise the transport and transit potential of the region, increase and diversify trade turnover, simplify and improve transit procedures.
