Turkish competition chief calls for equal market rules
Attracting foreign investment remains important for economic growth, but governments must also ensure fair competition and equal rules for all market participants, the head of Türkiye’s competition authority said on June 13.
Speaking during panel discussions at the 3rd Meeting of Heads of Competition Authorities of the Organization of Turkic States and the Competition Forum, Birol Küle, Chairman of the Turkish Competition Authority, stressed the need to maintain a level playing field in increasingly globalised markets, local media reports.
Küle said research conducted by competition authorities has identified differences in the behaviour of some multinational companies across different jurisdictions.
“Some companies do not follow the same rules in other countries that they strictly adhere to in their home countries,” he said, warning that such practices can undermine market fairness and require closer scrutiny by regulators.
While emphasising the value of foreign direct investment, Küle said protecting competition should remain a key priority for policymakers and regulatory authorities.
