Chinese port proposes adding Baku to “Three Nodes” logistics chain

China's Lianyungang Port has proposed including Baku in the Lianyungang-Khorgos-Aktau “Three Nodes” logistics chain, Jiang Wei, the port's vice president for external relations has said.

Speaking at an international conference in Baku on regional connectivity and strategic cooperation, he recalled that since 2013, Lianyungang Port and Kazakhstan Railways have operated an integrated “Three Nodes” model comprising the China-Kazakhstan logistics base in Lianyungang, the Khorgos Dry Port and the Aktau International Container Hub, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Jiang made clear that cooperation between Lianyungang Port, Azerbaijan Railways and Baku Port has been steadily expanding.

In 2024, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation outlining plans to use the resources of the “Three Nodes” and Azerbaijan Railways to develop multimodal transport routes jointly.

“In 2025, the leaders of both sides held an in-depth exchange of views on organizing regular transportation and introducing digital solutions on the Lianyungang-Baku route. We expect, based on existing cooperation, to turn the Lianyungang-Aktau-Baku route into a truly sustainable, highly efficient, and competitive Trans-Caspian logistics product,” Jiang added.

He further stated that Lianyungang Port was ready to work with Azerbaijan Railways, Baku Port and other partners along the route.

“Provided that data protection is ensured and the legislation of both countries is observed, starting with applied scenarios such as the exchange of information on international transportation, we propose gradually developing the cross-border exchange of logistics information and promoting the creation of a single Lianyungang-Khorgos-Aktau-Baku information chain,” he clarified.
