Azerbaijan, US explore expanded strategic cooperation in energy

Azerbaijan and the United States have discussed expanding their strategic cooperation across a range of sectors, including energy, transportation, high technology, and investment, during high-level talks held in Baku.

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Ben Black, Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), to review prospects for deepening bilateral and regional collaboration, according to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caliber.Az reports.

The discussions focused on enhancing economic and infrastructure ties, with particular attention to Azerbaijan’s role as a key link between Europe and Central Asia. Both sides highlighted opportunities in developing port and logistics infrastructure, strengthening energy security, and advancing regional transport connectivity.

The meeting also underscored the significance of a recent high-level summit held in Washington in 2025, which was described as laying the groundwork for broader Azerbaijan–U.S. cooperation. Officials noted that the summit helped advance plans for expanding engagement into new areas of mutual interest.

During the talks, the sides welcomed the signing of a Charter of Strategic Partnership, which outlines cooperation in economy, energy, transport connectivity, high technology, and security. They also discussed steps toward implementing the agreement.

Regional transport initiatives were a key topic, including the proposed TRIPP project, aimed at ensuring unimpeded connectivity between Azerbaijan’s mainland and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Both parties also exchanged views on broader regional and bilateral issues.
