Azerbaijan market in spotlight as US delegation studies opportunities

10 February 2026 09:33

The main goal of our mission is not to sign agreements, but to study Azerbaijan’s market and identify its needs, Khush Choksy, Senior Vice President, International Member Relations & Senior Vice President, Middle East & Türkiye, stated.

At a meeting with journalists, Choksy explained that the delegation aims to give companies a closer look at Azerbaijani business activities and learn about existing opportunities and government plans, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Choksy added that engagement should be mutual. He noted that the US would be pleased to host President Ilham Aliyev and Azerbaijani ministers during their visits to Washington or New York to meet with American companies. He also mentioned plans to organise events across the United States involving Azerbaijani government and private sector representatives to foster partnership development.

In addition, Choksy highlighted that the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia are attracting increasing American business interest, with Azerbaijan quickly proving its ability to host major international events like COP29 and boosting its regional appeal.

“The US Chamber of Commerce is a large organisation. We began active engagement in Azerbaijan only two years ago, yet we have already witnessed how successfully the country hosted COP29. Last year, we met with President Ilham Aliyev, who encouraged us to bring American business to Azerbaijan more actively,” he said.

Building on these observations, Choksy emphasised that Azerbaijan possesses a well-developed infrastructure and significant potential for further economic growth.

He said that in a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, it was highlighted how effectively the country has used its energy resources to diversify the economy and support sustainable growth for the entire population.

Choksy explained that one of Azerbaijan’s key strengths is the variety of development opportunities. He noted that this is particularly evident in the tourism sector, citing growing visitor numbers, ski resorts, modern infrastructure, and Baku’s rich history as examples.

He also underscored Azerbaijan’s strategic geographic position, noting that, situated at the crossroads of East and West, the country can serve as a connecting hub not only in energy—especially given Europe’s needs—but also in transport, logistics, manufacturing, and North-South trade routes.

According to Choksy, expanding regional cooperation, including the transition from the C5 to C6 format, opens new opportunities, while Azerbaijan’s location provides access to multiple markets beyond its national borders.
