Azerbaijan negotiates new transport route with Israel to expand international network

16 April 2025 18:16

Director of the Freight Transport Department at Azerbaijan’s Land Transport Agency (AYNA) Subkhan Abilov has said that Azerbaijan is currently in discussions with Israel to establish transport operations using international road transport routes via ferry services across the Sea of Marmara.

Abilov made these remarks during the first session of the National Business Development Forum in Baku. The forum focused on “Discussion of Issues and Proposals for Transport Infrastructure Development”, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Moreover, Abilov outlined several strategic goals for AYNA, including boosting the participation of Azerbaijani carriers in the international market and broadening the reach of the nation’s transport routes.

“Our transport routes expanded thanks to new agreements signed last year with China and Pakistan, as well as the alignment of transport permit plans,” Abilov said. “Today, Azerbaijani carriers are operating in 51 countries. Our work in this direction is ongoing — particularly, we are negotiating with Israel to use ferry routes across the Sea of Marmara for transportation. This is part of our ongoing efforts to extend the scope of our transport operations.”
