Azerbaijani, Dutch FMs discuss bilateral ties, regional developments during phone talk
Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and the Netherlands Jeyhun Bayramov and Caspar Veldkamp have discussed various aspects of the relations during a phone talk.
The current situation in the region during the post-conflict period was also discussed, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry told Caliber.Az.
The two sides emphasised the importance of mutual visits, contacts within various international events, and the political consultation mechanism between the foreign ministries to discuss the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations. Bayramov provided a detailed update on the situation and realities in the region, including the process of normalising relations with Armenia.
He stressed that, despite the completion of negotiations on the text of the peace agreement, constitutional changes in Armenia are necessary for its signing, as territorial claims against Azerbaijan still remain in the Armenian constitution. The Azerbaijani diplomat also highlighted the importance of abolishing the outdated OSCE Minsk Group and other relevant organisations. Bayramov briefed Veldkamp on the trial of separatist leaders and individuals of Armenian descent who are accused of committing numerous crimes against Azerbaijan.
He emphasised that following counter-terrorism measures, Azerbaijan, as a humanitarian gesture, allowed over 10,000 representatives of illegal Armenian armed groups to leave the country. The Azerbaijani minister further added that the arrested individuals are charged with crimes against humanity, and the defamatory campaign being waged against Azerbaijan, claiming that these arrests are unfounded, has no merit.
In this context, the Azerbaijani foreign minister reminded of the statement issued by the UN Human Rights Council’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, published on March 13, 2025, which refuted Armenia’s claims on the matter.
