Azerbaijan plans to send 4,500 tons of diesel fuel to Armenia

25 February 2026 10:21

Azerbaijan plans to dispatch a shipment of 4,500 tons of diesel fuel to Armenia by rail today, February 25.

The specified volume of diesel fuel will be dispatched today, February 25, from Azerbaijan by rail, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

These fuel supplies mark the first large-scale commercial trade in petroleum products between Azerbaijan and Armenia in decades, beginning after agreements to normalise transit and trade relations.

The trade started with the inaugural shipment on December 18–19, 2025, when approximately 1,220 tons of AI-95 gasoline were sent in 22 railcars from Baku's Bilajari station.

On January 8–9, a second batch totalling 2,698 tons was dispatched in 48 railcars, consisting of 1,742 tons of AI-95 gasoline and 956 tons of diesel fuel. The shipment includes 1,742 tons of AI-95 gasoline and 956 tons of diesel fuel, with deliveries being conducted via transit through Georgian territory.

Just days later, on January 11, another consignment of 979 tons of AI-92/RON 92 gasoline departed in 18 rail wagons from Bilajari station, heading toward Böyük-Kesik en route to Armenia via Georgia.

The deliveries are part of a broader effort to normalise trade links after Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced in October 2025 the lifting of transit restrictions to Armenia. These restrictions had been in place during Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani territories. Since the decision, both direct and transit railway shipments have been carried out along this corridor, signalling increased economic cooperation in the region.
