Azerbaijan Railways, Port of Hamburg focus on strengthening cooperation PHOTO

Azerbaijan ailways CJSC (ADY) and the Port of Hamburg have agreed to strengthen cooperation in transport and logistics, with a focus on developing the Baku-Hamburg route and expanding transit opportunities along the Middle Corridor.

The operator said the agreement was reached in Germany as part of a meeting between an ADY delegation led by Chairman Rovshan Rustamov and the management of the Port of Hamburg, Caliber.Az reports.

Representatives of Metrans, the port’s freight transportation subsidiary, also attended the meeting.

The sides discussed ways to develop cooperation between the Ports of Hamburg and Baku, improve the port-logistics chain and expand transit opportunities along the Middle Corridor.

They stressed the importance of integrating rail and maritime transport amid growing freight flows between Europe and Asia. Discussions covered the development of multimodal transport, increasing container volumes, digitalising logistics processes and improving the efficiency of freight operations.

The parties highlighted the value of sharing the Port of Hamburg’s extensive international experience, particularly in port management, logistics hub operations and the implementation of digital solutions.

Officials noted that the wider use of modern equipment and technologies at the Port of Baku, together with closer coordination between rail and port operations, could contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor.

At the end of the meeting, ADY and the Port of Hamburg signed a cooperation protocol. The document provides for greater exchange of expertise, the implementation of joint initiatives and the identification of new areas for cooperation in the logistics sector.
