Azerbaijan Railways records sharp growth in freight, transit volumes PHOTO
Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) reported a significant increase in freight transportation in May 2026, reflecting the country's growing role as a regional logistics and transit hub.
According to the state-owned railway operator, more than 1.6 million tonnes of cargo were transported during the month, representing a 23% increase compared with May 2025, Caliber.Az reports.

Transit freight volumes showed even stronger growth, exceeding 700,000 tonnes, up 34% year-on-year.
The company said nearly half of all transit cargo—398,508 tonnes, or 48% of the total—was transported via the North-South International Transport Corridor, a key trade route linking Russia, the South Caucasus, Iran, and India.
Another 236,480 tonnes, accounting for 19% of transit traffic, moved along the northwestern route.
