Azerbaijan hits 651 million tonnes of oil, 469 billion cubic metres of gas as of early 2025 from ACG, Shah Deniz fields
As of February 1, 2025, Azerbaijan has produced a total of 651.9 million tonnes of oil (including condensate) and 469.6 billion cubic metres of gas from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) and Shah Deniz fields in the Caspian Sea sector.
According to a report from the Ministry of Energy, of the total oil production, 602.9 million tonnes of oil and 230.8 billion cubic metres of gas were extracted from the ACG field, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Meanwhile, approximately 49 million tonnes of condensate and 238.8 billion cubic metres of gas were produced from the Shah Deniz field.
"By February 1, 2025, around 650 million tonnes of oil and 171 billion cubic metres of gas had been exported," the Ministry of Energy confirmed.
In terms of gas exports, the report reveals that 2 billion cubic metres of gas were sold abroad during the reporting period. Of this, 1 billion cubic metres went to Europe, 700 million cubic metres to Türkiye, and 300 million cubic metres to Georgia. Additionally, 500 million cubic metres of gas were transported via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) to Türkiye.
In 2024, BP and its adventurers invested significantly in the Shah Deniz field, spending approximately $2.2 billion in operating expenditure and $766 million in capital expenditure, mainly on the Shah Deniz 2 project.
Key achievements in 2024 included the completion of the Shah Deniz Alpha (SDA) power project, which now receives power directly from the Bravo platform, improving operational efficiency and reducing costs. The project also saw the successful production of around 28 billion standard cubic metres of gas and 4 million tonnes of condensate from both the Shah Deniz Alpha and Bravo platforms.
The Shah Deniz 2 project saw substantial progress, including the start-up of the third well on the East North flank in Q4 and continued subsea work on the West South flank. The subsea construction vessel Khankendi played a pivotal role in supporting all offshore construction, maintenance, and emergency operations across the field.
By the end of the year, 21 wells had been drilled as part of the Shah Deniz 2 development, including five on the North flank and four on the West South flank, further solidifying the project's progress towards full-scale production.
