Azerbaijan’s cargo transport volume rises 2% in first 11 months of 2025

Azerbaijan transported a total of 217.9 million tons of cargo between January and November 2025, marking a 2% increase copared with the same period in 2024, the State Statistics Committee said. 

Road transport accounted for the largest share of freight, carrying 61.7% of the total volume. Pipelines followed with 27.3%, while 7% was moved by rail, 3.8% by sea, and 0.2% by air, Caliber.Az reports. 

The country’s non-state transport operators remained dominant, handling 80% of all cargo. Their freight volume rose 3.3% year-on-year, while the state sector accounted for the remainder.

Rail freight fell to 15.4 million tons, a 9.3% decline compared with the same period in 2024. Maritime transport, however, increased by 5.1%, reaching 8.33 million tons. Road transport also saw growth, rising 5.8% to 134.3 million tons, while air cargo dropped 5.2% to 356,500 tons.

Pipeline transport saw mixed results. Trunk oil pipelines moved 33.41 million tons of crude oil, down 5.5%, whereas gas pipelines transported 36.3 billion cubic meters of gas, a marginal decrease of 0.04% over the 11-month period.
