Azerbaijan's Energy Minister seeks nuclear cooperation with IAEA at Munich summit
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, held a meeting with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), at the Munich Security Conference.
The discussions focused on energy planning under the Paris Agreement and enhancing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the IAEA, Caliber.Az reports.
“We had a productive meeting with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, within the framework of the Munich Security Conference. We discussed the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on energy planning under the Paris Agreement and addressed key issues regarding cooperation with the Agency in this regard,” Shahbazov stated on X.
Grossi in turn expressed the IAEA’s commitment to supporting Azerbaijan in diversifying its energy mix, including the addition of nuclear energy and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
“The IAEA is already supporting Azerbaijan as they explore adding nuclear, including SMRs, to their energy mix. We had a productive meeting with Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, at the MSC2025 to take stock of progress. We will continue supporting Azerbaijan,” Grossi noted.
