Azerbaijan's gas exports top $3 billion in first four months of 2025

Azerbaijan exported 8 billion 160 million 29.89 thousand cubic metres of natural gas in the period from January to April 2025, marking an increase of 5.9% compared to the same period last year.

According to the State Customs Committee, the value of the exported gas volume rose by 11.1%, reaching 3 billion 65 million 562.12 thousand US dollars, Caliber.Az reports.

The share of natural gas exports during the reporting period accounted for 34.9% of Azerbaijan’s total exports (compared to 33.77% for January–April 2024).

In 2024, total gas export volume reached 25.77 billion cubic metres, marking a 3.2% decline from the previous year.

The export value fell more sharply, dropping 38.5% year-on-year to $8.41 billion.

Note that Azerbaijan's natural gas exports are primarily driven by production from several key offshore fields in the Caspian Sea.

In 2024, the country's total gas production reached approximately 50.3 billion cubic meters (bcm), marking a 4.14% increase from the previous year.

Major Gas Fields and Production Volumes: Shah Deniz: This is Azerbaijan's largest gas field, contributing 27.8 bcm in 2024. Operated by a BP-led consortium, Shah Deniz is central to Azerbaijan's export strategy, especially towards Europe. 

Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG): Primarily an oil field, ACG also produced 13.3 bcm of associated gas in 2024.

Absheron: A newer field, Absheron contributed 1.5 bcm to the 2024 production figures.

SOCAR-operated fields: The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) managed fields produced 7.7 bcm in 2024.
