Azerbaijan's green energy share reaches 14% in electricity generation
Azerbaijan has marked significant progress in its adoption of renewable energy sources, with the share of "green energy" in electricity generation rising to 14 per cent in the first five months of 2024.
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy made an announcement in alignment with World REnew Day, emphasizing Azerbaijan's commitment to sustainable energy practices, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to the ministry, the installed capacity of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan now stands at 1.748.6 MW, constituting 20.86 per cent of the country's total installed electricity capacity. This increase underscores Azerbaijan's efforts to diversify its energy mix and reduce dependence on traditional fossil fuels.
World REnew Day, established on June 22, 2019, advocates for the global transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions. The occasion highlights the role of renewable energy in mitigating environmental impact and promoting energy security worldwide.
