Azerbaijan’s key freight ferry rejoins Middle Corridor following overhaul
The ferry “Akademik Hasan Aliyev”, operated by Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Closed Joint-Stock Company (ASCO) under the management of AZCON Holding, has returned to service along the Middle Corridor following a comprehensive refurbishment.
Mehman Mehdiev, head of the press service at ASCO, confirmed that the repairs were completed efficiently and to a high standard at the Zygh Ship Repair and Construction Yard, Caliber.Az reports.

The extensive overhaul included cleaning and repainting both the underwater and above-water sections of the hull, the lower and upper vehicle decks, the main deck, the engine room, and the superstructure. Mechanical work was carried out on critical components, including propeller shafts, decks, and engine systems. In addition, the ferry’s radionavigation, electrical systems, and automation were upgraded to modern standards.
Crew and passenger areas were also refurbished to meet contemporary requirements, enhancing both comfort and operational efficiency.
After successful sea trials, the ferry resumed freight operations along the Middle Corridor, embarking on its inaugural voyage from Turkmenbashi Port to Baku Port.
Measuring 154.5 metres in length and 18.3 metres in width, the ferry has a deadweight capacity of 2,425 tons, allowing it to transport up to 32 trucks and 28 railway wagons simultaneously.
