Azerbaijan’s SOCAR accelerates shift toward green energy expansion

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is evolving into a data-driven, AI-based, integrated, and diversified energy enterprise while accelerating its strategic transition toward green energy expansion, SOCAR Vice President Ziba Mustafayeva said.

Speaking at the opening of the 20th Baku Summer Energy School, organised by ADA University’s Institute for Development and Diplomacy, Mustafayeva stated that SOCAR continues its core oil and gas activities – including production, transportation, refining, and trading – while simultaneously expanding into the energy transition and green energy sectors, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

"Our green operations division has been cooperating with regulators for several years in solar and wind energy. We are now considering regional expansion opportunities, which means we have gained experience and are exploring other components of green energy beyond solar and wind," she stated.

She emphasised that SOCAR, as a state-owned company, operates in line with Azerbaijan’s sustainable development agenda, industrial policy, and broader economic strategy shaped by the President of Azerbaijan: "We adapt our strategy responsibly to ongoing changes."

Mustafayeva also underlined SOCAR’s recognition at the World Economic Forum in Dallas this year, where its Carbamide Plant received the Lighthouse Award for AI-driven digital solutions and automation. She further highlighted SOCAR’s assumption of BTC pipeline operations from BP as evidence of Azerbaijan’s growing capacity to manage large-scale infrastructure: "This experience can be shared not only nationally but also internationally, as BTC is a multi-country project."
