Azerbaijan sets sights on boosting Qakh’s tourism potential photo
The Azerbaijani State Tourism Agency has said that a recent meeting of the Tourism Working Group focused on unlocking the tourism potential of the Qakh district and laying the foundation for a sustainable development model.
The working session brought together tourism officials and stakeholders to review a new action plan centred on five strategic pillars: upgrading infrastructure, developing competitive tourism products, enhancing marketing and digital tools, improving service standards, and investing in human capital, Caliber.Az reports, citing the State Tourism Agency.
A key focus of the discussions was the long-term goal of transforming Qakh into an international tourism hub while simultaneously enhancing the socio-economic well-being of local communities. To support these ambitions, participants explored collaboration opportunities with partner organisations and reached preliminary agreements aimed at strengthening regional and sectoral cooperation.
Qakh is a picturesque district located in the northwestern part of Azerbaijan, bordering Georgia. Nestled within the Greater Caucasus mountain range, the district is known for its lush landscapes, rich biodiversity, and favourable climate. Qakh boasts a diverse cultural heritage, with a mix of ethnic groups including Azerbaijanis, Avars, and Georgians, which contributes to its unique local traditions and cuisine.
Historically, Qakh has been an important crossroad for trade and cultural exchange between the South Caucasus and neighbouring regions. Its natural attractions, such as dense forests, rivers, and historical monuments, make it a promising destination for eco-tourism and cultural tourism.
